Speak your truth!

It's hard to remove bias from the classroom. I know I have opinions, as I'm sure my students do as well, but isn't it great to be in a place where you can voice what you believe is right? You can try and change people's minds, or even allow others to change your own thoughts. I've heard people voice that the classroom is a place for acceptance, but I think that's only the first step. What's next is to encourage students to have the passion to try and change the opinions of those around them, to accept what they cannot change, and to persuade with empathy and compassion. We are all capable of forming, changing, and accepting different opinions and views. We can voice what we do not agree to with clear intent, and we can accept that we may impact others in ways we never expected. When out of control, we can create dialogue. I truly believe that if students can vocalize how they are impacted by others, we have a chance at changing the world.
